The garden is a very important space for many homes, it provides busy working people with a chance to be outside and relax. In some instances, it really is just treated like another room, and like any room inside a house, it needs furniture.
But what kind of furniture do you put in your garden? Do you spend a lot of money; do you spend as little as possible? With so many choices out there more and more people are choosing pallet seating to add a touch of comfort to their gardens.
For many years pallets were either discarded once the items delivered on them had been unloaded or broken up into firewood.
However, since people started becoming more environmentally conscious they have found a whole new life in the form of both indoor and outdoor furniture and even storage solutions the fact that pallet furniture is very sturdy and durable is a real bonus.
Do It Yourself
Why use pallets? Well, they are cheap, and in fact, most of the time people are trying to get rid of them for free. Choose clean-looking pallets with as little damage as possible.
Avoid those that have stains on them where possible, or that have been sitting out in the rain – they could harbor mold or bacteria; after all, you do not know what they originally held.
Scrub the wood, power wash it, and then let it dry and it’s ready to use. If you are handy with tools then there are plenty of resources available on the Internet to help you construct all types of pallet seating.
You could create anything from a simple chair to a full seating area of multiple chairs or even a bench, allowing you to make the best use of your space and customize it to your own needs.
When it comes to finishing your furniture you could keep it natural with just a light sanding, use a natural wood stain or a complimentary paint color on it, add seating pads, either homemade or store-bought and cushions to complete the look.
Ready-Made Pallet Seating
With the rise in popularity of pallet furniture, it is becoming increasingly easier to buy readymade pieces from a wide variety of outlets. There are even designer pallet seating options available – offering a little more durability and style than some of the cheaper options.
And whether you opt for a fully backed chair or sofa, or prefer more of a standard style, you’re sure to find something to suit your needs.
Of course, sitting on just a few pallets with no cushioning isn’t likely to make for a comfortable afternoon in the garden; so many budding exterior designers opt for colorful foam cushions placed atop their new garden furniture.
For best results, go for a shocking splash of color -the bolder the better – as this makes a nice contrast with the plain wood of the pallet frame, and gives a real focal point for your guests to admire.
